Newspaper office attack case transferred to DB

A case on attack of a local newspaper office has been shifted to Detective Branch Police from Narayanganj police station to investigate the matter.

The police arrested Nasir, Lakkhan, Krishna, Ibrahim, Liton, Asif, Faisal and Hira produced before the court yesterday seeking 7 days police remand.

A senior judicial magistrate Kazi Mohammad Mohsin’s court granted one day police remand following both parties' hearing, court inspector Asaduzzaman asserted.

A gang of hoodlums around 40 to 50 attacked a local newspaper (Daily Somoyer Narayanganj) office at 193 President Road in the town on February 12 noon.

 Later the editor and publisher of the newspaper Javed Ahmed Jewel filed a case (no-10) with Narayanganj Sadar police station on Saturday midnight accusing 19 named and unnamed 30-40 men.

The case petitioner said that on February 11 a report was published in his newspaper titled “what was in the draft charge sheet” (ja chhilo kkhoshra obhijog potre), on the matter of sensational Toki murder case. His office came under attack following the publication of the report.

It is mentioned that Toki was abducted in 2013. Toki’s father Rofiur Rabbi from the beginning has been blaming Shamim Osman’s family members, mostly Azmeri Osman, nephew of Shamim Osman.

Police super Mohammad Jayedul Alam said that police took action against the criminals and the investigation is underway to capture the rest of the accused.
