Zayeda Khatun, newly elected mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) and mother of former mayor Jahangir Alam; took charge of her office as GCC mayor on Monday.
On the occasion, a doa mahfil was held at Bangataj Auditorium in the city.
People from all walks of life, including the Chief Executive Officer of the city corporation, and freedom fighters, joined the programme.
The officials of Nagar Bhaban in Gazipur greeted her with flowers when Zayeda entered into her office.
Jahangir Alam was appointed as the chief advisor of the mayor.
Zayeda Khatun, won the GCC elections with 238,934 votes after defeating Awami League
backed candidate Azmat Ullah on May 25.
