Newborn stolen from Natore rescued in Kushtia

The police on Saturday rescued a three-day-old baby girl from Kushtia, a day after she was stolen from Natore Sadar Adhunik Hospital on Friday.

The police also arrested the woman who stole the newborn.

At a press conference on Saturday noon, Md Saifur Rahman, superintendent of Natore Police, said that they rescued the baby girl from village Khajanagar in Kushtia and safely handed over to her mother on Saturday.

Saifur Rahman said that, after the incident five teams including the cybercrime unit of Natore Sadar Police Station started investigating and identified the fake nurse, who stole the baby girl, with the help of information technology.

‘We first arrested the fake nurse — Kajoli Begum — from Chakbaidyanath area in Natore city and rescued the newborn from Kushtia based on the information given by the latter’, he said.

The police official said that Kajoli sold the newborn to a woman for just Tk 8000.

Earlier, Hasna Hena, wife of Mahfuzur Rahman Polash of Khajura Mahishdanga village in under Naldanga upazila in Natore, gave birth to a baby girl at Natore Sadar Adhunik Hospital at about 11:00am on Thursday.

Kajoli in nurse’s uniform took the infant from her grandmother Khairun Nahar on the pretext of taking her to a doctor and fled away at about 12:00pm on Friday.
