The year ended for the cinema arena through frustration. Although the number of movies in the list of released film in 2019 surpassed fifty, there is only one movie name which was a success that is Shakib Khan’s ‘Password’. Apart from this, all other films fell from the sky before they could lift off.

Everyone involved in the cinema was hoping to bring new light to the cinema arena by overcoming the cine-drought of 2019. There were no news in follow-up to that in Dhallywood. The new year is moving in rhythm with the disappointment of past year.

The first week of 2020 is coming to an end on January 3, with no new movies released. This information has been confirmed by the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association.

It is known that there are no new films on the cue which are going to be released this Friday. ‘joynagarer Jomidar’ will be released as the first film of the year on January 10.

Meanwhile, Action Cut Entertainment was in talks about releasing Jaya Ahsan and Prasenjit Chatterjee’s ‘Robibaar’ film on January 3. That is not happening. “We had planned to release ‘Robibaar’ at the beginning of the year”, said Ananya Mamun, the film’s director. “But that is not possible for some complications. Trying for next week”, he added.

Khorshed Alam Khasru, the president of the producers’ association, said the issue of the start of the new year without new films was disappointing. “It wasn’t supposed to happen,” he said. “We had already seen that the release date for a few months after the beginning of 2020 was not free. There were two films to be released each week. Now I hear that no new movie is being released in the first week. It’s frustrating. Maybe someone changed the date and withdrew the release”, he added.

Meanwhile, the owners of cinema halls are disappointed with the lack of new films. Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad, president of the Exhibition Association, said, “It is very frustrating. The year started badly. There is no movie to be released. Next week will be even worse. The films are not available to the audience.”
