New trolley system improves passengers’ goods service at Benapole

A new passenger’s trolley system has been introduced for passengers who are using Benapole Port at Benapole Customs Check post to enhance the quality of passenger good service.

As a result, passengers are entering the customs check post from no man’s land with their own luggage in a trolley with great ease. Therefore, passengers do not have to pay extra money.

Due to this step, each passenger save extra money TK.500 to TK.1000. About 200 laborers have been suspended from customs and immigration area.

Port authorities appointed 200 excess laborers in the restricted area.  About 100 new trolleys for passengers could not be launched for a long time due to labor constraints.

Abdur Rashid Miah, the newly joined Joint Commissioner of Customs after a long time has arranged for 100 trolleys to carry passengers' luggage for the first time at the risk of local various obstacles.

Hundreds of outsider have already been evicted from customs and immigration.

At the direction of Customs Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman ,Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House Md. Abdul Qayum and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Chakma are take care to the passengers so that they are not harassed.

Customs check posts have been brought under full CCTV cameras to monitor the movements of labor and brokers round the clock.

Since independence, no customs official has dared to free the labor and brokers from the customs check post area. 

But the present Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman and the Joint Commissioner Abdur Rashid Mia have successfully completed the suspended of brokers and labor at risk.

No one is allowed to enter the customs and immigration terminal except passport passengers traveling to India.

Sophisticated scanning machines and CCTV cameras have been installed at the passenger terminal to free customs and immigration brokers. Passenger security has been strengthened with armed Ansar force.

No one could enter the main gate of the passenger terminal under the watchful eye of port security personnel, Ansar members and customs officials.

Passengers are performing all kinds of formalities themselves quickly and in an orderly manner as the customs authorities have increased the quality of their services.

Passport passengers from all over the country are very happy to take this new type of initiative.

Sohrab Hossain, a passenger returning to India on Monday morning, said that when he came to the Benapole check post and saw the quality of customs service, it looked like he the airport. ‘I can easily carry my luggage by trolley. No extra money has to pay the labour. At present, the environment of customs check posts is very good. We are very happy in such an environment”, he added.

According to the customs sources, for a long time, a group of outsiders at the Benapole check post had been harassing the passport holders coming from far and wide.

The gang was extorting money in the name of speeding up their passports without serials.

On the other hand, with the launch of Dhaka-Kolkata bus service, the customs authorities are providing maximum service. He is able to go to India quickly without any hassle.

Benapole Custom House Joint Commissioner Abdur Rashid Mia said, at present, new trolleys have been arranged at the International Customs Check post to enhance the quality of passenger service.

Labor brokers have also been evicted to allow passengers to travel in comfort to save extra cost.

However, the introduction of trolley system to enhance the quality of service to the passengers has been a challenge to bring back the beautiful environment.

At present, passengers are coming to India safely using trolleys without any harassment.

The extra cost of passengers has also been saved. At present, the whole matter has been informed to the National Board of Revenue. The Board of Revenue is overseeing the matter.

Benapole Customs House Commissioner Azizur Rahman said that everyday, 10 thousand of passport passengers travel to India through Benapole Check Post. 

About 3 million passengers travel between India and Bangladesh every year. After the Covid-19 pandemic, Passenger travel has increased daily. 

In the last 18 days, 1 lakh 41 thousand 210 passport holders have traveled to India through Benapole Check Post. Introducing new trolley system to enhance the quality of service to the passengers, creating a labor and broker free environment has faced many challenges.
