New road to reduce distance between capital and Sherpur

According to ECNEC project sources, if the Sherpur (Kanasakhola) -Bhimganj-Narayankhola-Rambhadrapur-Paranganj-Mymensingh (Rahmatpur) road is constructed, the distance between Sherpur and the capital including Mymensingh will be reduced by about 20 km. In addition, the road connecting Nankugao land port, Kurigram and North Bengal will be reduced by 20 km.

Sherpur (Kanasakhola) -Bhimganj-Narayankhola-Rambhadrapur-Paranganj-Mymensingh (Rahmatpur) road development project; Expenditure has been estimated at Tk 1,842.27 crore, including 11 projects approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) last week. The total cost for the implementation of the approved projects will be 5 thousand 625 crore 74 lakh. May 2022 to April 2025. This project will be implemented.

The total length of the road is 44.906 km in Mymensingh part with railway overpass and about one and half kilometer bridge over Brahmaputra river (length - 1461.8 m). In addition 7 more bridges and 77 TRCC box culverts will be constructed.

As per the decision taken at the meeting on “Mymensingh Divisional Town Development” held at the Prime Minister's Office on 17 August 2016 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, he gave written instructions for construction of 3 (three) bridges on the Brahmaputra river to connect with the new town. The ECNEC has approved a project to build a link road with a bridge.

Sherpur (Kanasakhola) -Bhimganj-Narayankhola-Rambhadrapur-Paranganj-Mymensingh (Rahmatpur) Road Development Project (Z-4618) Road Sherpur (Kanasakhola) -Bhimganj-Narayankhola-Rambhadrapur-Paranganj-Mymensingh has 12 roads. Of which 8 roads owned by the Department of Local Government Engineering are 2 km of unpaved embankment road of Bangladesh Water Development Board and the rest is new alignment.

This road is at Kanasakhola in Sherpur district from the 62nd km of Sherpur-Nakla-Phulpur road to Bhimganj Bazar, Chandrakona Bazar, Narayankhola Bazar, Charbasanti Primary School, Singimari, Rambhadrapur Bazar. At the junction of the 41st km of Madhupur-Mymensingh (N-401) National Highway and at the junction of Mymensingh city bypass road (N-309), cross the Brahmaputra river along the unpaved road on the right. The length of the road is 44.908 km and the average width is 3.0 m - 3.7 m. In this context, the project has been proposed to increase the width of the road from 1.5 meters on both sides to a total width of 10.30 meters with hard shoulder. The main part of the vehicles plying on the said road will be 10.00 km long Mymensingh city bypass road (N-309) traveling to other cities of the country including the capital Dhaka. 243.00 meters new culvert will be constructed in the project. 19.73 km new pavement construction work, 17.301 km reconstruction work and 4.10 km rigid pavement will be constructed.
