In a bid to put a halt to the never-ending battle against mosquito menace, the initiative has been taken to bring state-of-the-art machines from Germany to remove water hyacinths and floating debris from canals and ponds, which are the main sources of mosquito breeding.
We are hoping that the machines which will be purchased are capable of living up to its expectations. Many awareness campaigns have been launched in this regard. Furthermore, legal action will be taken against those who play a role in contributing to the breeding of the mosquito as well.

do not breed in the first place
Several water bodies in the city have become virtually breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The authorities concerned have finally taken some sustainable approaches to clean those. If this is implemented, the same problem might not arise every year.
Now to implement this holistic project successfully, ministry, city corporations, and other authorities concerned should work cooperatively and fulfil their responsibilities. Active participation of city residents is also required to make this initiative a major success.
Waste disposal should be properly managed and canals should be cleaned so that the rainwater goes somewhere instead of flooding our streets. We need to do more than just exterminating the mosquitoes and we have to create a healthy environment where mosquitoes do not breed in the first place.
It is unfortunate that Dhaka residents have been suffering from mosquito menace for a very long time. Many promises have been made previously by the concerned authorities to get rid of mosquito menace but so far they failed to keep their promises. We hope this time they will be successful.
