Indian High Commissioner-designate Vikram Doraiswami on Tuesday met Chief of Protocol Md Amanul Haq at the foreign ministry and handed over a copy of his credentials.

He is expected to present the credential to President Md Abdul Hamid on Oct 8 at Bangabhaban.

Doraiswami is replacing Riva Ganguly Das who left Dhaka to take up her new assignment at the Indian external affairs ministry.

The new envoy arrived in Dhaka on Monday via Brahmanbaria's Akhaura land port and said he would work on strengthening partnership with Bangladesh for mutual benefit.

“Bangladesh is the nearest neighbour and friend of India. I will work on how the partnership with Bangladesh can be enhanced,” he had said in an instant reaction.

“I'm delighted to get the opportunity to work for further improvement of our relations,” he had said.

Doraiswami was an Additional Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
