Newly-appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman immediately after being adorned with rank badge at the prime minister’s official Ganabhaban residence, reports BSS.

He placed a wreath at Bangabandhu’s portrait on the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum premise at Dhanmondi Road number 32 here. Senior police officers were present. Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Public Security Division Senior Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin adorned the new police chief with the IGP rank badge in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On April 8, the government appointed Ahmed as IGP, who was serving as director general of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The home ministry issued a circular saying the appointment will be effective from today (April 15).
