A new Highway Police Box has been inaugurated in the Kanchan Bridge area to strengthen road safety and improve traffic management on the busy Gazipur–Dhaka Highway. Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah of the Gazipur Region Highway Police formally opened the facility during an event held on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inauguration, SP Rahmat Ullah said the newly established police box would play a crucial role in preventing road accidents, ensuring rapid emergency service, and enhancing vehicle movement control on one of the region’s most congested highways. “The Highway Police is working tirelessly with public safety as its top priority,” he said.

Md Sohel Rana, In-Charge of the Kanchan Highway Police Camp, said the addition of a permanent police box would ensure quicker response times during emergencies, which frequently arise on this major transport corridor.

As part of broader efforts to promote safe road practices, the Highway Police has also installed newly designed traffic-safety tip boards and set up a police checkpoint near the site. Officials said these measures are expected to encourage more law-abiding behaviour among road users and reduce risky driving patterns.

The construction of the police box was supported by Platinum Group. Its Executive Director, Major General (Retd.) Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, said the organisation was honoured to assist in such an important road-safety initiative. “We are proud to contribute to this significant step toward safer highways,” he said. “We will continue supporting similar welfare-oriented activities in the future.”

Local public representatives and residents present at the event expressed optimism that the new police box would improve overall security in the area and ensure faster emergency response for commuters and transport workers travelling along the Gazipur–Dhaka route.
