New generation should learn more about liberation war: CCC mayor

Chattogram City Corporation is working for the overall welfare of the freedom fighters out of responsibility and responsibility towards the brave freedom fighters, CCC mayor, brave freedom fighter Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, if we do not welcome the local freedom fighters, then the new generation will not know the true history of the liberation war here.  By doing this, we will be deprived of knowing the true history of freedom and liberation war.  Maybe there will be no opportunity to honour the freedom fighters in the future.  Because not everyone is going to the country of return due to age and old age.  He urged the researchers, writers and historians of the liberation war to record the history of various local operations and liberation war from the local freedom fighters.  Commenting that if the spirit of the liberation war is lost, the stability of the country will be endangered, he said that now is the high time to prepare the new generation for taking the leadership of the future with ideas about the glory of the liberation war and sacrifice.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the ceremony of felicitating 120 brave freedom fighters on behalf of Chattogram City Corporation at Theater Institute premises in the city on Monday morning.

The meeting was presided over by Chief Administrative Officer of Chattogram City Corporation Mohammad Shahidul Alam and conducted by CCC Secretary Khaled Mahmud.  Indian Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan spoke as a special guest on the occasion.  Councillor Abdus Salam Masum, President of Samaj Kalyan Standing Committee, gave the welcome speech.

 Panel Mayor Afroza Kalam, Councilor Zahar Lal Hazari, Vice President of Metropolitan Awami League and Freedom Fighter Nayem Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Metropolitan Freedom Fighter Commander Mozaffar Ahmed, District Freedom Fighter Commander AKM Sarwar Kamal, Freedom Fighter Researcher Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Freedom Fighter Haris Chowdhury,  Chief Education Officer Lutfun Nahar spoke on the occasion.

CCC Mayor said, Chattogram is pioneer in everything including liberation war.  After Bangabandhu's declaration of independence, the first resistance war started from Chattogram under the leadership of then EPR Captain Rafiqul Islam.  The next day, Awami League leader MA Hannan read out the declaration of independence from Kalurghat Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.  Many great thinkers and politicians for independence could not bring independence despite many efforts.  Only Bangabandhu was able to do this.  Because he was the leader of the people.  He has been able to reflect the opinion of the people.  That is why Bangabandhu is the best.  Remember that children of history never die.  History immortalizes them. 

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after Bangabandhu came to power and presented this history correctly to the new generation.  That's why Bangladesh has turned again in the spirit of the liberation war.

Indian Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan said that India-Bangladesh friend country played an important role in the liberation war of Bangladesh.  India's allies were directly involved in the war, their joint sacrifices in today's independent Bangladesh.

He said that the diplomatic relations between the two countries are still intact.  The current government is working to implement the goals and objectives of the freedom fighters who fought the freedom war.  Under his leadership, the country is moving forward with the spirit of a freedom fighter.

Mahanagar freedom fighter commander Mozaffar Ahmed said, we don't want money, we don't want land, we just want respect.  Freedom fighters should be given due respect while still alive.  He proposed that the reception should be held at Sentonmatin Island in Cox's Bazar in the future.  City Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury presented the crest to the Indian Assistant High Commission and gave the crest and honor to the freedom fighters at the end of the reception.

Councillor Md Nurul Amin, Ghulam Md Zobair, Nazmul Haque Duke, Kazi Nurul Amin, Sheikh Zafarul Haider Chowdhury, Abdul Mannan, Ataullah Chowdhury, Shahed Iqbal Babu, Reserve Councillor Jasmine Parveen JC, Rumki Sen Gupta, Shaheen Akhtar Rozi, CCC Chief Revenue Officer.  Nazrul Islam, Special Magistrate and Joint District Judge Manisha Mahajan, District Magistrate Marfa Begum Nelly, Mayor's Private Secretary Md Abul Hashem, Education Officer Ujala Rani Chakma, Revenue Officer Syed Shamsul Tarbeez, Deputy Secretary Ashek Rasul Chowdhury Tipu were present.
