Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC), a permanent venue for holding trade fairs in Dhaka, is all set to host exhibitions.

The state-of-the-art exhibition centre built by China at a cost of Tk 13.03 billion at Purbachal on the outskirts of the capital was handed over to the Bangladesh government several months ago.

The centre was supposed to host its first event -- Dhaka International Trade Fair-2021 -- scheduled to be held in March, but the authorities postponed the show due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officials said the centre will be used as a permanent venue for various product-based fairs throughout the year. They said the centre would boost export-import trade between Bangladesh and rest of the world.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation has built the exhibition centre on 20 acres of land area.  It has 33,000 square metres of floor space, including an exhibition hall covering 15,418 square metres.

Officials said the centre houses a 473-seat multi-functional hall, a 50-seat conference room, six meeting rooms, a 500-seat restaurant, children's play zone, prayer room, office room, medical booth, dormitory-cum-guest room, and parking lot for around 1,500 cars.

The Chinese government provided Tk 6.26 billion for the project. Officials said international trade fairs and exhibitions could be organised at BBCFEC throughout the year.
