Netrakona tribals’ Onegala festival held

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan attends inaugural ceremony as chief guest

Onegala, the annual colorful cultural festival of the tribal community of Durgapur and Kalmakanda upazilas under Netrakona, was held at Kalmakanda upazila.

Lawmaker from Durgapur-Kalmakanda constituency Babu Manu Majumder MP formally inaugurated the two-day long One Gala Festival organized by Tribal Society at Durgapur Cultural Academy on Friday. Mayeenul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Netrakona, presided over the festival.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan MP attended there as the chief guest. State minister for Fisheries and Livestock Asraf Ali Khan Khasru MP was also present there as special guest.

Nurul Islam Sujon said  that the present government has been working relentlessly for the welfare of the peoples especially for the under-privileged and tribal society.

He said, “Durgapur is a place of full of mineral resources, we can use these mineral recourses for strengthening our economy easily. In order to utilize these mineral resources properly, we decide to extend 12 km of rail line from Zaria to Durgapur.”

The technical work for extension of the rail line has already been started, He added.

Asraf Ali Khan Khasru MP said, “Our country has earned the status as a developing country under the dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who earlier declared “Zero Tolerance” policy against Corruption, terrorism, drug abuse and militancy.          

Among others Police Super Joydev Kumar Chowdhury, Adloc Marak, Director of the Durgapur Cultural Academy, Shwarabinda Sarker, Swapon Hajong and many others were present there.
