One of the late Irrfan Khan’s last few projects, the Bangladeshi film ‘Doob: No Bed Of Roses’ (2017), will be streamed on Netflix from 5 February.
Directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the film stars Bangladeshi actresses Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Rokeya Prachy and Bengali actress Parno Mittra. The film was also co-produced by Khan.
‘Doob’ released to positive reviews in 2017. The film was selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
‘Doob’ is about a filmmaker Javed Hasan (Khan) and his relationship with Nitu (Mittra), a childhood friend of his daughter Saberi (Tisha). Rokeya plays Hasan’s wife. The film is about the consequences faced by Hasan following his affair.
It is said that the film is loosely based on the life of Bangladeshi writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. Speaking about the film during the release, Farooki had said that he took inspiration from a real-life incident “which shook the very foundation of Bangladesh’s judgmental Muslim society” and “how women struggle in the society and find strength in despair".
Khan passed away last year after his long battle with neuroendocrine cancer. -Cinestaan
