A view-exchange meeting was held in Natore on Wednesday morning to resolve the stalemate over the project of Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (NESCO) to install the smart prepayment meter in the face of protests from customers,
Local MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul was present as the chief guest at view-exchange chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Natore Mohammad Shahriaz in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
During this time, representatives of various professions and customers raised various allegations regarding the installation of NESCO's Smart Pre-Payment Meter.
Later, local MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul decided to install the smart pre-payment meter after creating public awareness. At the same time, he said, customers would not have staged any protests in Natore if the installation work of the pre-payment meters started after creating awareness among locals through billboards, leaflets, meetings, seminars, advertisements and backyard meetings.
Among others, District Council Chairman Sajedur Rahman Khan, Natore Judge Court PP Sirajul Islam, Natore Sadar Circle ASP Asad, NESCO's Rajshahi Region Chief Engineer (Distribution) Md Abdur Rashid, Project Director Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury, Natore Municipality Mayor Uma Chowdhury Jalisa and other were present at the time.
Notably, NESCO has started the work of installing smart pre-payment meters in Rajshahi, Natore and Sirajganj. Of these, 4,70,450 three-phase pre-payment meters would be installed in homes and 33,460 in industrial mills.
