A fire broke out in the control room of Kathaltali power substation on the outskirts of Naogaon town at around 5.30 am on Friday.

Fire service personnel brought the fire under control around 8:30 am after trying for 3 hours. The power supply to Naogaon and Santahar has been cut off since the fire broke out. The concerned officials of the power department are not able to say exactly how long it will take for the power supply to return to normal.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Naogaon Harun-ur-Rashid visited the spot at noon and inquired about how long it will take for them to bring the power supply to normal.

According to NESCO (Northern Electricity Supply Company) Naogaon office, the fire broke out in the control room of the power substation around 5.30 am. Power department personnel immediately tried to extinguish the fire. Shortly after receiving the news, two units of Naogaon Fire Service were involved in extinguishing the fire. Fire service personnel were able to put out the fire in three hours.

Preliminary speculation is that the accident may have been caused by an electrical fault. When the fire broke out, the flames of the fire could be seen through the windows of the control room from a great distance. The fire damaged many equipment in the entire control room.

Monir Hossain, Executive Engineer of Naogaon NESCO's Sales and Distribution Division, said the cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained. However, it is thought that the accident may have been caused by an electrical fault. The amount of damage caused by the fire or the cause of the fire is being investigated.

He added that after the fire broke out, the entire Naogaon municipal town and some parts of Santahar municipality were left without power. It is not possible to say exactly how long the power supply will be normalized.

However, Naogaon NESCO workers are working to normalize the power supply quickly. Besides, an expert team of NESCO has come from Rajshahi to help them.
