Thirty houses built under cluster village project at a cost of Taka 45 lakh (4.5 million) for landless people at Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj district are being ravaged and plundered before the handover of those. Local people, however, blamed negligence of the concerned department and irregularities in construction works for such situation.
It is learnt, the houses of the cluster village were supposed to handover to the benefiaciaries of the project. But, even after one yoar of construction, the final list of the beneficiaries has not yet been prepared. As a result, the establishment is being damaged and thieves were looting corrugated-tins and other materials like doors and windows of those houses.
According to sources, the cluster village project entitled, 'Kushiara Cluster Village' at No.-1 sadar union under Ajmirganj upazila got approval of the government in 2018-'19 fiscal year. Under this proect, 30 houses containing boundary walls and tubewell were constructed at a cost of Taka 45 lakh.
But due to negligence, boundary walls of most of the houses have been demolished, soil has been removed from the floor and toilets have become unfit for use. The thieves also removed and stole the corrugated tins from the roof of some house. Neighbours of the village informed, if such situation continued further, the entire cluster village would turn fully unfit for living.
Mohammd Ali, Upazila Project Implementation Officer in this connection informed, the construction works of Kushiara Cluster Village project has been finished in due time but due to not preparing the final list of the benefiaries, the houses are not being sanctioned in due time. As a result, the houses are being damaged.
Local people informed, low quality materials used for construction of the houses are the cause of damage of the houses so soon.
Matiur Rahman Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Azmiriganj informed, the list of benefiaries was prepared and sorted by the former UNO and he would take step soon to prepare a final list of beneficiaries and hand over the houses to them.
