Despite the fact that the number of corona-infected patients is increasing with every passing day there is no such fear among people belonging to the lower-income groups. Working class people are already out in search of work defying the restrictions owing to the fact that it is only a square meal that matters to them at the end of the day.
According to the findings of a rapid perception survey conducted by Brac and published a few days ago, 95 percent people (respondents) of the lower-income people have experienced a drop in income because of the shutdown measures implemented to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, approximately 51 percent of the respondents said that their incomes were reduced to zero after the ‘general holiday’ was announced.
Under such circumstances it’s really difficult for those people to stay home and live without food. The adage ‘necessity knows no law’ is probably the right phrase to delineate the kind of situation poor people are going through at the moment.
