After a long discussion and criticism, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has made the corrections for all sixth- and seventh-grade textbooks, which were revised in light of the new curriculum in 2023.
The corrections were published on the NCTB's website on Thursday, about four months into the academic year.
Separate corrections were provided on the website for each subject. The errors on each page and the corresponding corrections were indicated, along with comments on what needed to be done.
A total of 26 corrections were made to the 13 textbooks for both the sixth and seventh grades.
The new corrections include separate notes on the “Onushiloni Paath (Practice Book)” under History and Social Science books, stating that students will collect information from appropriate sources with the help of teachers wherever “Onushandhani Paath (Research Text)” or resource books are mentioned in the “Onushiloni Paath” books.
According to the new curriculum, a student has to study 10 books; including books on religions, there are a total of 13 books in each grade.
The new curriculum began on January 1 for the first, sixth and seventh grades. Gradually, the new curriculum will be implemented in other grades starting next year.
Therefore, textbooks are changing under the new curriculum.
However, the government on February 10 directed the NCTB to withdraw two books of “Onushandhani Paath” on History and Social Science for grades six and seven amid controversy.
At the time of the withdrawal, the NCTB said necessary revisions would be made in some chapters of “Onushiloni Paath” of the History and Social Science subjects of the two grades and the “Onushandhani Paath” book under science for the sixth-graders.
However, the NCTB provided the corrections for all sixth and seventh-grade textbooks.
