NCPC’s closing ceremony held

The concluding ceremony of National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) was held at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in city Mirpur Cantonment on Saturday.  State minister of ICT Division  Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended  as the chief guest. He  also gave away prizes among the winners. 

He told about various steps taken by the government in developing the ICT sector of the country. He emphasized on enhancing programming capacity and problem solving skills of the young programmers in building Digital Bangladesh. He expressed his great desire that our programmers will take an all-out effort to do their best in the forthcoming ICPC and bring glory for the country.  

Commandant of MIST, Major General Md. Wahid-Uz-Zaman reiterated that MIST will continue to play its role in the development of ICT sector of the country by imparting quality education and research.  Next year International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is going to be held in Bangladesh. At this backdrop, the programming contest which has been held today bears a great significance. In the preliminary stage 302 teams from  77 universities registered for the programming contest.

 After scrutiny 152 teams participated in the final competition. A thirteen member advisory panel including Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad along with renowned Professors from different universities, members of BCC, members of Bangladesh Problem Setters Association (BAPS) contributed towards the success of the contest.

Programming efficiency is one of the fundamental tools in building Digital Bangladesh. To develop programming skills and grow enthusiasm on programming among the university students, numerous programming competitions are being arranged at different levels in the country. National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) is such a competition, organized at national level in Bangladesh. The competition was first organized in the year of 1998.

Since then it is being patronized by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and being organized by different universities and institutions every year. The Government has declared the year 2020-2021, as Mujib year and we are going to celebrate Bangabandhu’s birth centenary on the 17th March next. In this remarkable year, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Mirpur Cantonment, has been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing NCPC-2020 which just held today on the 22nd February of 2020.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department Brigadier General Mohammad Sajjad Hossain delivered his introductory speech. All Deans, Department Heads, Wing Heads, high ranking military and civil officers, students, teachers and all invited guests were present in the program.

It is mentionable that  Digital Bangladesh program started in 2009, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This program has been proved to be successful to change the socio-economic structure and develop the living condition of the people. Use of computer technology has brought speed and accuracy in the government and non-government offices. It has helped to eradicated corruption and ensured accountability. 

Syllabus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been incorporated at every level of education and its arena has also spread. This programming competition at national level speaks of the sincere efforts that it is keenly taking in building Digital Bangladesh.
