Income tax fair ends today

NBR collects Tk 2016 crore in six days

A total of Tk 2016 crore was collected till Tuesday, the penultimate day of the weeklong income tax fair across the country. On the sixth day, the fair witnessed a huge crowd as hundreds of taxpayers rushed to their respective fair venues to pay their taxes. In capital Dhaka, a festive mood prevailed on officers’ club premise with people filling up their return forms in great enthusiasm to pay taxes spontaneously.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the number of taxpayers was increasing in the income tax fair everyday as they can pay taxes without harassment.

He said, “Women taxpayers significantly rose in the country, which is good for our economy.” Hossain said that the country’s collection of income tax is not enough, and urged all capable people to pay income tax for the sake of the development of the country. The NBR earned Tk 2016 crore from the ongoing tax fair in first six days as a total of 5,39,910 taxpayers filed return, an official statement said.

It added that a total of 15,12,592 people received various services during the time at the fair. The statement said some 26,831 new tax identification numbers (TIN) were also issued in six days. A total of 2,52,815 people availed different tax-related services on the sixth day of the week-long fair across the country.

The statement added that NBR earned Tk 3.57 billion as some 1,19,145 people submitted their tax return at the fair venues on the sixth day. Some 5,325 new tax identification numbers (TIN) were also issued on the day. The Fairs remained open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Wednesday.

Submission of income tax return, e-payment, e-filing and e-TIN servicers are available for the taxpayers. In order to facilitate the taxpayers, the government has opened a website for the first time. This year the fair premises has been widened by 4 to 5 times compared to previous years. The taxpayers are also able to pay their tax amount by using mobile banking facilities like ‘Nagad’, ‘Rocket’, ‘bKash’ and ‘Sure cash’.
