NBR aims to widen tax net, cut tax rate: Munim

Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Munim, Secretary, Internal Resources Department and Chairman, National Board of Revenue said,  our goal is to increase the tax net, reduce the tax rate, simplify the payment of taxes and stop the trend of evasion.  You can have confidence.

 He was speaking at a pre-budget discussion meeting for the fiscal year 2022-23 organized by the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) at Hotel Agrabad on Sunday afternoon.

 The NBR chairman said, “We have tried to identify some problems in business trade.  I have reduced a lot in two years.  Reasonable proposals will be verified.

 Also present were NBR Member (Customs Policy) Md. MasudSadiq, Member (Income Tax Policy) Sams Uddin Ahmed, Member (VAT Policy) Zakia Sultana.

 President of Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khalilur Rahman presented a bunch of proposals for the upcoming budget.

 AM Mahbub Chowdhury, vice-president of the metropolitan chamber, said that earlier it took 54 signatures to release goods at the custom house, so it has been reduced to 8 signatures.  One of the chairmen of the NBR has implemented a landmark decision to take the country's trade and commerce forward.  We are grateful to them.

 CMCCI Director Abul Bashar Chowdhury said that many changes have taken place in bonds, customs and VAT.  The budget determines how the airplane will run from the needle.  I want an environment friendly, industry friendly, business friendly, economic growth budget.  Taxes will have to be reduced by increasing the tax coverage.  Due to waterlogging, Khatunganj sinks 5 times a year, lighter ships sink and losses in tax structure have to be taken into consideration.

ModasherAlam Siddiqui said 5 percent AIT is deducted on import of HR coils.  Manufacturers need to be supported.

 BSRM MD Amir Ali Hossain said that removing the gray area would make it easier to do business.  If transparent, under invoicing, over invoicing will be stopped.
