National Bank Limited (NBL) has been adjudged the top taxpayer among the local private banks for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has awarded the bank with a memento and tax card for the contribution of the bank to the national exchequer.

NBL Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Shah Syed Abdul Bari and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Krishna Kamal Ghosh received the crest and tax card from Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi at a programme in the capital recently.

A press release of the NBL said four banks have become top taxpayers in the banking sector – all of them but NBL are foreign private banks.

Tax Commissioner (Large Taxpayer Unit) M Iqbal Hossain presided over the tax card handover ceremony where National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member (Tax Appeal and Exemption) Apurba Kanti Das and BCS (Tax) Academy Director General M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, among others, were present.

NBL was among the top tax payers in the banking sector for the 2018-19 fiscal year too.
