NBL Launches contactless EMV Chip Visa and Master Card

National Bank Limited launched of its first-ever Master Card and Visa-branded EMV-enabled Chip Credit Card with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology under Q-Cash Network in the country on Saturday. The launching was held at the conference hall of Zainul Haque Sikder Women’s Medical College and Hospital in the capital with an aim to serve extraordinary digital services and best banking experience to its countrywide customer base.

This card will spontaneously communicate with the contactless payment terminals to exchange secured card information for any transaction up to Tk 3,500.00 for flawless approval from the issuing bank. This card will be accepted worldwide at the Point of Sales (POS) terminals and ATMs bearing logo of Visa, Master Card. In Bangladesh, this card will also be accepted at any POS and ATMs bearing Visa, Master Card, NPSB and Q-cash.

The launch further strengthens National Bank’s commitment to the push behind cashless payments and to provide safer, faster and simpler payments options for consumers in Bangladesh. The EMV-enabled contactless Visa and Master Card credit cards will make the payments experience quicker and more seamless by allowing cardholders to simply tap the card in front of a card reader or POS terminal to complete the transaction up to Tk. 3,500.00 which will not require any more to swiping or inserting the card into the terminal.

Zainul Haque Sikder, Chairman of the Bank and Parveen Haque Sikder MP, Director and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the bank were present at the event as Chief Guest and Special guest respectively. Directors of the bank Rick Haque Sikder, Ron Haque Sikder, Managing Director of the bank Choudhury Moshtaq Ahmed, Additional Managing Director M A Wadud, EVP and Head of Cards Mahfuzur Rahman, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Information Technology Consultant Limited Osman Haider and Muttahidur Rahman, Chief Information Officer of Information Technology Consultant Limited Faizul Islam and other senior officials of National Bank Limited were present on the occasion.

Later at noon, NBL inaugurated an ATM booth at the newly inaugurated NBL Mohila Branch at Sikder Real Estate, West Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Parveen Haque Sikder MP, Director and EC Chairperson of NBL formally inaugurated the booth by cutting a ribbon. Under this ATM network, all Visa cardholders will be able to use this ATM 24X7. The ATM is connected to the National Payment Switch, Bangladesh (NPSB) managed by Bangladesh Bank. Thus all the cardholders of NPSB member banks will also have access to this ATM. Visa Debit cardholders of National Bank Limited will be able draw cash from this ATM “any time, any day” at free of cost.
