In celebration of the revolutionary spirit of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, a special rock concert titled ‘Mora Jhonjhar Moto Uddam’ was held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Saturday evening.
Organised by the Kabi Nazrul Institute, the open-air event faced delays due to heavy rainfall. But defying the bad weather, music lovers gathered to enjoy the unique concert that brought Nazrul’s timeless songs to life through the power of contemporary rock music.
The concert also marked the official release of a new album featuring 10 of Nazrul’s iconic songs, reinterpreted by popular bands. Kabi Nazrul Institute Executive Director Latiful Islam Shibli said, “We are ready, the bands are ready — and we will begin as soon as the rain lets up.”
After a delayed start, actress Elina Shammi hosted the programme, kicking off with popular band Shironamhin performing “Kandari Hushiyar.” Noted elocutionist Titu Munshi added poetry recitations between performances, bringing Nazrul’s verses alive.
Rock band Black performed “Porodeshi Megh” and “Jaago Naari Jaago,” followed by all-female ethnic band F Minor’s “Joy Hok.” Bands like Mizan and Brothers, Dalchhut, Warfaze, Rebel, and Different Touch performed a series of Nazrul classics in rock style.
However, a brief commotion during Ark’s performance of “Tribhubon-er Priyo Muhammad” led the band to leave the stage early. Later, Shibli addressed the audience and unveiled the album poster alongside cultural ministry officials.
The concert concluded with Souls performing “Ei Shikol Pora Chhol.” Organizers said all tracks will be released on the Kabi Nazrul Institute’s website and social media platforms to inspire the youth through Nazrul’s powerful songs.
