Today is the 44th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Prominent Nazrul singer Ferdous Ara will spend a busy day on the occasion. Talking to her about her hectie preoccupation and other issues, writes A Mizan.
How much busy are you on the death anniversary of Nazrul?
We have a deep love for the poet. Every year we organize something on the day of his death out of love for the poet.
So even in the coronavirus, I will go to the mazar of the poet and give flowers this morning with the boys and girls of my singing school Sursaptak.
I will sing ‘Sonar Hindole’ on Channel-i tonight at 8:30 pm. Besides, there is a Nazrul organization called Banshari. I have done 6 songs of Nazrul on the initiative of this organization. Of these, 2 songs will be aired on Indian channel Colors TV and 4 songs on Asian TV.
Do you have any special arrangements for your school of music?
On the occasion of the poet’s death anniversary, a program has been organized by Sursaptak on the next August 31. On that day, I will sing with the boys and girls of Sursaptak on Channel-i.
Do you think there is enough Nazrul practice in Bangladesh? Earlier it was seen that Nazrul’s birthday and death anniversary were actually celebrated in a major way.
But there was no other arrangement throughout the year. But now the picture has has changed. Now Nazrul Institute, Bafa, my music school Sursaptak and many other institutions are practicing Nazrul regularly.
Another thing I like very much is that now Facebook and YouTube are very popular media. During the coronatvirus period, I saw many people on Facebook and YouTube singing Nazrul’s Hamd Naats. This means that the practice of Nazrul has increased a lot now.
What is the news of the project of a thousand songs in your single voice?
The ninth album of this project has already been released. Work on the tenth album is over. I have collected many unpublished songs here. I intend to release the album soon.
When will we get a new song under your music direction?
Before Coronavirus epidemic, I directed music for a movie song. I have done a song about mother in the movie directed by actor Joy. I am also working more. But it is running a little slower because of Corona. Hopefully it will calm down again soon. We will also be regular in more songs.
