Renowned agriculture scientist Dr Md Nazirul Islam has joined as the new Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Sunday (May 10)). Agriculture Ministry issued an order in this regard on May 5, says a press release.
Dr Md Nazirul Islam was born in Jhenaidah district on October 10 in 1962. He joined the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) as a Scientific Officer in 1989. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Senior Scientific Officer, Principal Scientific Officer, Chief Scientific Officer and Director.
He served as the Director (Planning and Evaluation) of BARI before joining in this post. He was also working as Chief Scientific Officer at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre.
He has successfully worked on Regional Horticultural Research Center, Narsingdi, Regional Agricultural Research Center, Barisal, Regional Agricultural Research Center, Jashore and Agricultural Research Center, Rajbari, Dinajpur.
Nazirul Islam obtained his PhD in Horticulture (Major) and Plant Genetics (Minor) from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos in 2006.
