The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 24 fishermen along with their fishing trawler Madina-6, which had been drifting in the Bay of Bengal after its engine broke down.

According to a Navy press release, the rescue operation was carried out on Monday by the naval ship BNS Aparajeya, which was conducting a routine patrol in the southern waters.

The stranded trawler was spotted approximately 29 nautical miles south of Mongla Fairway Buoy. Using radar, the naval crew identified the vessel as being in distress due to engine failure and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the sailors found the trawler adrift with no means of communication and the fishermen stranded at sea.

All 24 fishermen were safely rescued and provided with food, clean water, and first aid on board the naval vessel.

It was later learned that the trawler had left Kutubdia on October 29, 2025, for a fishing expedition. A mechanical fault had left the vessel immobilised and drifting in deep waters. Despite rough seas and unfavourable weather, BNS Aparajeya towed the trawler for about 35 nautical miles to Hiron Point near the Sundarbans, where it was handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard (West Zone) for necessary follow-up.

Navy officials confirmed that all rescued fishermen are now in good health.
