Bangladesh Navy rescued 18 fishermen from Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday who were stranded at deep sea after their boat’s engine malfunctioned.
The Navy warship 'Shaheed Farid', while on regular patrol, found a fishing trawler floating 25 miles west of Maheshkhali.
At that time, the fishermen on the trawler started displaying distress signals after seeing the Navy ship, which was seen as suspicious by the Navy, and the ship soon rushed to the distressed trawler.
According to Navy sources, after reaching the trawler, the naval personnel came to know through the boatmen that they had been floating in the deep sea for the past four days due to the engine failure of their trawler. As their remaining food and clean water were exhausted, the navy members observed their plight and provided them with food and clean water on an emergency basis. Then, the trawler with the fishermen was safely transported to the Kutubdia area from that place.
At that time, in addition to the necessary water and food, they were provided with emergency first aid. All 18 fishermen in the trawler are currently healthy. The helpless fishermen expressed their sincere gratitude to the navy for saving their lives and returning them to their families. The navy members learned that the accident-hit trawler had gone to sea from the Monpura area of Bhola district for fishing.
It is known that the Bangladesh Navy is constantly patrolling the entire Bay of Bengal and coastal areas day and night by deploying multiple warships to ensure the security of the country's maritime borders, preservation of the blue economy, prevention of smuggling and safety of fishermen, which will continue in the future.
