Navy hands over 72 barrack houses for the homeless in Sandwip

Bangladesh Navy today formally handed over 72 barrack houses to local administration for the homeless and underprivileged people in Sandwip upazila of Chattogram under the Ashrayan-2 project.

These barrack-style houses were constructed by the Bangladesh Navy under the direction of the Prime Minister and Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the overall supervision of the Armed Forces Division (AFD), an ISPR release said here on Sunday.

Each barrack has five units with separate kitchen and bathroom facilities. In total, there are 360 units in the 72 barracks, the release added.

Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Samrat Khisha and representative of the deputy commissioner received the necessary documents of the barracks from the Bangladesh Navy. Navy representative Lt Commander M Touhidul Islam and local dignitaries were present at the programme.

Bangladesh Navy earlier built and handed over a total of 4,408 barrack houses under the Ashrayan-2 project in Bagerhat, Bhola, Pirojpur, Barguna, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Chattogram, Noakhali and Cox's Bazar districts. A total of 33,405 homeless families were accommodated in those houses.
