The Natore Free-Day was observed on Monday (December 21) amid various programmes.
On the occasion, District Muktijoddhya Sangsad and Muktijoddhya Sangsad Sontan Command jointly brought out a colourful procession from in front of Natore Press Club. The procession ended at Swadhinata Chatwar after parading different roads of the district town.
Later, participants of the procession paid rich tributes to martyred freedom fighters by placing wreaths at a monument of Liberation War in the town. They also observed one-minute silence there and took part in a special prayer.
A discussion was also held there. Woman MP Ratna Ahmed, Mayor of Natore municipality Uma Chowdhury and member secretary of Muktijoddhya Sangsad Sontan Command Syed Mostak Ali Mukul spoke on the occasion, among others.
Although Bangladesh was freed on December 16 in 1971, people of Natore district got the taste of freedom on December 21 in 1971, five days after the nation’s final victory. The Pakistani occupation forces surrendered to Mukti Bahini at Uttara Gono Bhaban.
