We think this time the government will announce a fresh nationwide complete shutdown with tougher measures in line with the national technical advisory committee’s recommendation as the virus keeps spreading fast in the country.
The national committee on Covid-19 in its 38th meeting on Thursday recommended “complete nationwide shutdown” for 14 days, saying they had a discussion with top Indian experts to know their experience of the latest spike in transmission and lockdown in India.
Indian experts said that the transmission came under control in India when complete shutdown was imposed. Reportedly, immediately after the recommendations, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said, in an effort to curb the transmission of the novel coronavirus, the government may announce a nationwide complete shutdown anytime.

With the number of Covid-19 cases climbing, the government recently enforced lockdown in seven districts around Dhaka in order to protect the capital from the deadly virus. However, now the situation has compelled the government to think about enforcing a fresh strict nationwide lockdown anytime to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
We think the situation will get out of control if the government does not take tougher measures alongside enforcing complete shutdown right now. As Eid-ul-Azha is approaching nearer, measures should also be taken to ensure safe movement of people and cattle-laden vehicles.
Bangladesh, a densely populated country, is still facing the wraths of the Covid-19 pandemic as people continued to defy health protocols despite warnings both from the government and experts. Therefore, we think if desperate movement of people can be stopped and health safety protocols are ensured, we will surely get the positive result. Besides, if a complete nationwide shutdown is enforced, the government will have to provide financial and food assistance to the low-income people across the country.
