Marking the genocide on the night of 25th March in 1971, a symbolic 'Black Out' will be observed all across the country from 9:00 pm to 9:01 pm on March 25.

The information was given in an official statement by the government on Monday. However, KPIs and emergency installations will be exempt from this program.

According to the statement, there will be no decorative lighting in any government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings or monuments in the country on the night of March 25 during the time of the blackout and throughout the night.

However, decorative lighting can be used from the evening of March 26 the next day. The government has taken this decision as part of implementing the national program on March 25, marking the day of the genocide.

It was further informed that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has requested the concerned government and non-governmental organizations and the general public to make sure that the decided programs are executed with ease.

March 26 is Independence Day in Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh from the very day took part in a war for independence against Pakistan. Independence of Bangladesh was gained through a nine-month guerilla war against the Pakistan Army which resulted in the independence of Bangladesh on the 16th of December of the year.
