The grateful nation observes the National Mourning Day today (Tuesday) recalling with a heavy heart Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the 48rd anniversary of his martyrdom.

We are still in a state of shock and profound grief over the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu. The killing of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975 is the ugliest chapter of the nation’s history.

The self-confessed killers of August 15 did not assassinate Bangabandhu alone, but also killed 16 other members of his family, friends and relatives. However, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, escaped the planned assassination with her sister Sheikh Rehana as they were staying overseas then.

Sheikh Mujib’s assassination descended a pall of gloom and spread a sense of deep sadness among the people in the country and across the globe. When this day, the August 15 comes around every year the whole Bangali nation turns emotional.

It is time to turn the grief of

the August 15 into strength

 to build 'Sonar Bangla' as

 dreamt by Bangabandhu

 Sheikh Mujibor Rahman

It has been found that some local and foreign individuals including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) founder Ziaur Rahman, as well as agencies, were involved in the conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu. A framework has been devised for forming a commission to unearth the behind the scene plotters of August 15, 1975 carnage that saw the brutal assassination of the nation’s founding father Bangabandhu and most of his family members..

Bangabandhu’s killers wanted to destroy the spirit of the liberation war and push Bangladesh into Pakistani-style politics. All out steps must be taken to unearth the behind the scene plot of the August 15, 1975 carnage entirety to stop recurrence of such conspiracies in future.

Ehen an independent commission will be formed and international investigation will be carried out, our future generation would be able to know about the killers, masterminds and others who had created the plot of killing of Bangabandhu and rehabilitated the killers. Otherwise, the next generation will not know the real history.

The day should be observed with a fresh vow to materialise the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a “Sonar Bangla” and to bring back all the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to be executed.

We Bangali people will have to turn the grief of the August 15 into strength to build 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Bangabandhu under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of the Father of the Nation.
