National Legal Aid Day observed countrywide


The National Legal Aid Day-2019 was observed across the country on Sunday aiming to make the public aware about the government’s free legal aid services.

In Narail, District Legal Aid Committee (DLAC) arranged a discussion at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy in the district town on the occasion of the day. District and Sessions Judge and chairman of DLAC Sheikh Abdul Ahad presided over the event, reports our Narail Correspondent.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Narail Anjuman Ara, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Al Masud, Police Super Md. Jashim Uddin, Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Haider Ali Khondoker, Joint District and Sessions Judge Md. Hadiuzzaman, Joint District and Sessions Judge Abubakar Siddique, Chairman of Zila Parishad Advocate Shorab Hossain Biswas, Joint Judge Syed Siraj Zinnat, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Zahidul Azad and Md. Morshedul Alom, Assistant Judge Mst. Takia Sultana and Md. Habibur Rahman, public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Emdadul Islam, Advocate Achin Chakrabarty, president of District Bar Association Advocate Syed Mohammad Ali, secretary Advocate Uttom Kumar Ghos, Chairman of Narail Sadar Upazila Parishad Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu, Mayor of Narail municipality Md. Jahangir Biswas, APP Advocate Alomgir Siddique among others were present in the meeting.

In his speech, Md. Hadiuzzaman informed that a total of 246 distressed and poor men including women applied for legal aid services free of cost through the district legal aid office last one year from May in 2018 to April this year. Of them 150 cases were accomplished at the time.

In Habiganj, a discussion was arranged at the auditorium of Habiganj District Bar Association marking the day, reports our Habiganj Correspondent.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Amzad Hossain chaired the event, while it was addressed, among others, by Police Super Mohammad Ullah, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Ziauddin Mahmud, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Mohammad Halim Ullah Chowdhury, Additional District Magistrate Nurul Islam, Additional District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza, Chief Judicial Magistrate Tania Kamal, president of District Bar Association Advocate Badru Mia, general secretary Advocate Ruhul Hasan Sharif, Press Club president Harunur Rashid Chowdhury and District Legal Aid Officer Mohammad Ali Akkas.

Earlier in the morning, a colourful rally was brought out in the district town.

In Jhalokathi, former minister and MP from Jhalokathi-2 constituency Amir Hossain Amu spoke at a discussion as the chief guest on Sunday marking the National Legal Aid Day, reports our Jhalokathi Correspondent.

District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Gazi Rahman chaired the programme, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jhalokati Md Hamidul Haque, Police Super Md Jobayedur Rahman, Civil Sergeant Shyamol Krishna Hawlader were present among others.

The day was observed in the district with the slogan ‘Free Legal Aid’.

A colourful rally was brought out in the district town marking the day. The rally paraded different roads of the town. 

A fair was organised on the premises of the court building. Later, a blood donation camp was held there.

In Netrakona, the day was observed in the district with various programmes, reports our Netrakona Correspondent.

On the occasion, Netrakona District Legal Aid committee and Netrakona District Bar Association jointly chalked out various programmes, including rally and discussion.

A colorful rally was brought in the morning from Netrakona Judge Court premises. The rally ended on the court premises after parading different roads. Abu Md. Amimul Eahsan, District and Sessions Judge of Netrakona, led the rally.

Md Mayeenul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Netrakona, Md Rukunuzzaman Khan, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Babu Joydev Chowdhury, Police Super, Additional Disrict and Session Judge, Afia Begum, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Masud Sheikh, Joint Distrct Judge Md Baha uddin Ahmed, Joint District Judge Farzana Khan, Judge of the Land Survey Tribunal Harun or Rashid, Senior Assistant Judge Kohinoor Arzuman, Senior Assistant Judge Md Zaglul Haque,  Advocate  Sitangsu Bikas Acharjya, president of  Netrakona Bar Association and Ligal Aid Officer  Mohidul Islamr,  Ifteker Uddin Khan Masud, Public Prosecutor (PP) and layers, officials, local journalists and others took part in the rally.

Later, the discussion was held at the conference room of the Circuit House Judge court with Abu Md. Amimul Eahsan, District and Session Judge of Netrakona, in the chair.

In Rajshahi, marking the day, the district legal aid committee arranged a colourful rally followed by a discussion meeting on the judge court premises, reports our RU Correspondent

Later, the legal aid fair was also held in front of the chief judicial magistrate court’s building.

AKM Shohidul, the judge of high court division, inaugurated the fair with senior judge of district and sessions judge court Mir Shofiqul Alam, deputy inspector general of Rajshahi range Hafeez Akter, among others, were present on the occasion.

In Chattogram, a rally was brought out from district court premises, participated by judges, lawyers, district administration officials, public representatives, and officials of different government and non-government organizations (NGOs).

District and Session Judge Ismail Hossain inaugurated the rally through the releasing pigeon and balloon. Latter, a discussion was held at Chief Judicial Magistrate conference room.

In Meherpur, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain took part in the programs of the National legal Aid Day in the district. A rally was brought out from Shilpakala Academy. Later, a discussion was held with chairman of District Legal Aid Committee and Senior District and Session Judge SM Abdus Salam in the chair. Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Rashidul Islam, Chief Judicial Magistrate Shirin Nahar also spoke on the occasion.

In Sherpur, the day was observed in the district with colourful rally, discussion and other programs. District and Session Judge and chairman of District legal Aid Committee K M Shahid Ahmed inaugurated the programs of the day through releasing pigeon and balloons. Judges, officials and members of the bar took part in the discussion on the day.

In Banguna, the day was observed through rally, legal aid fair, blood donation program, discussion and cultural program. On the occasion a discussion was arranged at District Judge Court hall room with District and Session Judge Md. Asaduzzaman in the chair. Judges, officials, leaders of bar, journalists also spoke on the occasion.
