With the theme of ‘Bhorbo Machhe Moder Desh’, National Fisheries Week was inaugurated amid colourful programmes in Jamalpur on Wednesday.
Member of Parliament of Jamalpur Sadar constituency Md Abul Kalam Azad as the chief guest spoke at the programme. Deputy Commissioner Md Shafiur Rahman presided over discussion.
A colourful procession was brought out from heroic Freedom Fighter Abdul Aziz Chattar and paraded the main road on the occasion of National Fisheries Week. Later, Md Abul Kalam Azad MP inaugurated the fisheries week by releasing balloons on the premises of the deputy commissioner. Then, a discussion was held at the meeting room of the deputy commissioner.
Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Anowar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shitesh Chandra Sarkar, District Fisheries Officer SM Khalekuzzaman, heroic Freedom Fighter Sujayat Ali Fakir, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jannat Shahid Pinky spoke at the discussion. Cultural activist MI Rasel moderated the programme.
After the discussion, several fish farmers and an organisation received awards for their special contribution in fisheries.
While speaking as the chief guest, Md Abul Kalam Azad said the programmes of fisheries week could be held at the village level. The farmers would have been benefitted. If we would go there, the techniques, problems and solutions, etc. could have been shared with them. He also asked the authorities concerned to arrange such programme at the village level.
