National Birth and Death Registration Day was observed with a colorful rally and discussion at Gurudaspur upazila in Natore on Sunday.
The colorful rally and discussion was held on the Upazila Parishad premises at 11:00am in the day. Gurudaspur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asadul Islam presided over the programme on behalf of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Salma Akter.
Gurudaspur Upazila Agricultural Officer Md Harunor Rashid, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Selim Akter, Ansar VDP Officer Mosammat Khushi Khatun, Chapila Union Parishad Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman and Statistics Officer attended the programme as specials guests. Besides, administrative officers of upazila municipality and all the unions were present at that time.
During the discussion, the speakers gave speech about the importance of birth registration. They said that the national birth registration is not only a medium to ensure civil rights, it is an important part of their identity and crucial to protect their rights. Moreover, there is a chance of being deprived of various governmental services without a birth certificate, said the speakers.
The people were urged to raise public awareness and ensure birth registration for all children through this programme.
