National Bank Limited has strongly protested a news item published in Prothom Alo newspaper in its Sunday issue under the caption “‘Feud in Sikder family’ over the bank.

In a protest letter sent to the newspaper, the bank termed the report “motivated, fictitious and devoid of reality” and said publishing such a report is nothing but an ill effort to tarnish the image of National Bank, its shareholders and Sikder family.

The letter said, “Mrs Monowara Sikder, the wife of valiant freedom fighter late Zainul Haque Sikder, is performing the responsibility of the bank’s chairperson. National Bank's good performance on different indices as a financial institution is very positive for its shareholders. The motive of the vested quarter is to affect this by spreading motivated, confusing and data-less propaganda.”

It said Sikder Group was always united and they still are respected and acclaimed at home and abroad as a happy, responsible and altruist family having trust and love for each other. “There is no chance that the family peace will be disturbed by the propaganda of any vested quarter.”

Mentioning that National Bank has been dedicated to the service of the country, nation and its clients for the last 39 years, the letter said it is the only local bank among the four commercial banks which were adjudged the highest taxpayers for the 2019-20 financial year. There is no scope to be confused about the rule of National Bank in the infrastructural development of the country, it added.

According to the letter, the entire National Bank family, including its officers and employees, clients and well-wishers, are in shock over the untimely demise of Mr Zainul Haque Sikder, the chairman of the bank and Sikder Group, a liberation war organiser, valiant freedom fighter, renowned benevolent and industrialist.

“Amid such a situation, the vested quarter is spreading motivated, imaginary and baseless propaganda,” it said urging the bank’s clients and well-wishers not to be confused by the propaganda and to keep full trust in the National Bank family and continue their support.

The letter urged the highly circulated newspaper like Prothom Alo not to publish any motivated and imaginary information about a large financial institution like National Bank.
