National Archery Championship to start today

The 13th National Archery Championship will begin from today at Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium, Tongi with a total of 196 archers from 45 clubs including men and women from across the country will vie for 30 medals.  

In the national meet, archers from across the country will have the opportunity to through challenges to the big names of Bangladesh archers - Roman Shana, Diya Siddique and Nasrin Akhter.

Roman Sana, Diya Siddique and Nasrin Akhter returned home from Thailand last week after winning three gold medals in the Asia Cup Archery Stage-2. 

Roman Shana and Nasrin Akhter pair won the gold medal in the mixed team event defeating their Indian counterparts. In the all Bangladesh final of the women’s single, Nasrin won gold defeating her compatriot Diya Siddique.

However, organised by the Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) and sponsored by the City Group, the national meet is a part of the ‘Teer Go for Gold Project’, as the General secretary of the BAF, Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal informed all in a press conference on Thursday at the Bangladesh Olympic Association Auditorium (BOA). 

Among the 196 participants, 85 men, 59 women will compete in the compound division and 30 men and 22 women will contest in the recurve division.

The competition will be held in two rounds with ranking and elimination round with 70 meters distance in recurve division and 50 meters distance in compound division. 

Lt. General Moinul Islam (rtd), president of the BAF and Jafor Uddin Siddique executive director (sells and marketing) of City Group were present among others in the press conference.

President of the BAF, Moinul Islam ensured that in future the medal (gold, silver and bronze) winners in the international stage, archers would be honored with prizemoney.
