Reiterating her government’s firm stance, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina categorically says the next national election will be held as per the country’s Constitution. The government is ready to welcome foreign election observers, the premier says while commenting at a meeting with four MPs of the British All-Party Parliamentary Group, who called on at her office on Wednesday.

The Election Commission of Bangladesh is very much independent. The incumbent government will perform its routine duty during the elections.  Bangladesh follows British’s Westminster type of democracy and it does not have any problem if election observer comes here.

We hope the next poll

will be held in a free

 and fair manner

We applaud the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina’s bold statement. This statement is not only a bold stance but also an effort to end a vicious circle that used to grab the state power using guns and then descended to politics after forming political parties. We think Sheikh Hasina wants to send a message to the foreign countries that no election under the caretaker or poll-time government will ever be held in the country. Bangladesh will never bow down to any pressure rather the country will move ahead with the strength of people. The ruling Awami League, as a political party, has a long tradition of fighting for the restoration of the democracy. The British MPs expressed their satisfaction over the unprecedented infrastructural development of Bangladesh. Our country struggled to establish the democratic process and free fair elections here, and that free and fair election was only held during the Awami League regime.

Since August 15 in 1975, Bangladesh had witnessed coups time and again and there were coup attempts for around 20 times and every time there was bloodshed. We believe all will refrain from giving any provocation in holding fair elections and creating any disorder in our country.

The next general elections will be held in this country the way polls are being held in other countries of the world. So, we hope the next poll will be held in a free and fair manner as the February 15-like polls will not be allowed in the country in any way.
