National Insurance Day 2021 is being observed today. To observe the day in a befitting manner a day long program has been chalked out.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the program as the chief guest at MPBICC. The event will be presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Initiative has also been taken to celebrate the National Insurance Day with due importance at the district and Upazila level across the country. This year's theme is "Promise of Mujib Year, insurance for all".
Md. Asadul Islam, senior secretary, Department of Financial Institutions, Ministry of Finance ,Chairman, Managing Directors and chief executives of different insurance companies will attend the celebration. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman joined the then Alpha Insurance Company on 1 March 1970. Following the decision of the cabinet meeting held on 15 January 2020, March 1, which is associated with the insurance memory of the Father of the Nation, was declared as 'National Insurance Day'.
There will be various arrangements including awarding honors to eminent insurance personalities, inauguration of Bangabandhu Education Insurance and screening of documentaries.
Initiatives have been taken by the district administration, upazila administration and insurance companies and surveyors across the country to organize various programs including discussion meetings to celebrate the National Insurance Day on March 1, 2021.
In addition, in view of the covid-19 pandemic, some innovative concept-based activities have been adopted instead of organizing colorful rallies and cultural events like the first National Insurance Day.
Among them are webinars on insurance for expatriate workers, webinars with university students highlighting the significance of Insurance Day, insurance posters in district and upazila cities, health chains in front of branch offices of city-wide insurance companies by equipped vehicles, etc.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was involved in the insurance industry. Hence, the responsibility of our insurance sector is much more.In that context, "Bangabandhu Shiksha Bima" is going to be launched on the National Insurance Day with the own funding of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority. On the centenary of the birth of the Father of the Nation, the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority have taken some more steps.
‘Bangabandhu Corner’ has been set up in the office of the authority with a booklet written on Bangabandhu. ‘Bangabandhu Suraksha Bima’ has been introduced to provide financial assistance in case of medical services and death of a person injured in an accident for a premium of only Tk 100 under which a maximum insurance facility of Tk 200,000 will be provided. The work of making a health insurance scheme for more than 16 lakh disabled people has been finalized. ‘Bangabandhu Sportsman Insurance’ has been launched.
A program is being held at the authorities' office to make widows and parents lose their children by paying the death penalty in favor of their children through the ‘Bangabandhu Ashar Alo-Bima Claim’ effort on Wednesdays, considering the Father of the Nation's birthday on Wednesday.
The Insurance Development and Regulation Authority is seeking the co-operation of the press and electronic journalists to make the National Insurance Day, 2021 a success.
