Nat’l fisheries week to be observed in July

The ‘National Fisheries Week-2019’will be observed in July to make the country self-reliant in fish, reports BSS.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the week.

The information was revealed on Tuesday at an inter-ministerial meeting at the Motsho Bhaban conference room in the city. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru presided over the meeting.

The meeting was also informed that though Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given her consent to inaugurate the week, the date and place of the programmes are not yet fixed.

The slogan of the week this year is ‘Machchashe Gorbo Desh/ Bangabandhur Bangladesh’.

As per the draft schedule, a rally and the fisheries and livestock minister’s press briefing will be held on the first day of the week and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the week on the second day.

On the second day, a five-day fisheries fair will begin in Dhaka and three-day district level fish fairs will be held across the country.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will release fish fries in the ponds at the Bangabhaban, the Ganabhaban and the Jatiya Sangsad in the week.
