State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has asked the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) to be more accountable to its consumers.

‘Complaints are constantly being received from the consumers, which need to be settled quickly. Punitive measures  will be taken for failure to improve the quality of consumer service.’

The state minister said this on Monday while visiting the TGTDCL office in the capital.

Nasrul Hamid said that currently the pressure of gas is slightly low due to technical fault and the increase of LNG prices in the global market, which will be solved shortly.

‘The consumers of Titas Gas should be constantly informed of the real  situation to increase their confidence. Illegal gas line disconnection should be stepped up,’ he added.

While discussing the existing projects of Titas, the state minister said that the next generation will get better services if the projects are taken keeping the future benefit in mind.

Regarding illegal connections, Titas said that 25 kms of illegal gas lines were disconnected in November, 24.1 kms in December last year, and 16 kms in January.

Titas Gas Co also said that it had outstanding dues of Tk 745.22 crore with government entities and Tk 5620.25 crore with private entities.

The state minister requested the consumers to pay the arrears, saying it is not possible to take up many service-oriented projects due to arrears of around Tk 6365 crore.

Nasrul Hamid also instructed the authorities to accelerate the smart meter connection activities.
