Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested businessman Nasiruddin Mahmood and four others in a case filed over rape and murder attempts on actor Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, Harun Or Rashid, Joint Commissioner of DMP ( DB) confirmed.
The four other arrestees were primarily identified as Tuhin Siddique Omi, 33, Lipi Akter, 18, Sumi Akter ,19, and Nazma Ameen Snigdha,24.
According to DB, the detained three young women are members of a DJ group.
DB officials claimed that they recovered local and foreign alcohol and 1,000 pieces of yaba during the raid. The detainees were taken to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital.
Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DB Gulshan division, said, a fresh case under Narcotics Control Act will be filed after further investigation.
Nasir, a founding member of the Dhaka Boat Club. He is also a real estate businessman. He is also the former president of Uttara Club.
Nasir was the president of Uttara Club for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015. He is also associated with the current executive committee of the Dhaka Boat Club. Nasir, the chairman of his own housing project 'Kunj Developers Ltd.', studied at Dhaka University. At that time he was the elected general secretary of Salimullah Muslim Hall (SM Hall) of the university. He is now a presidium member of Jatiya Party.
His wife is alive. They have two sons in their family. The eldest son is the managing director of the same housing project.
Nasir, the prime accused in the Pori Moni attempt to rape and murder case, claimed that Pori Moni and her associates were trying to enter the club despite not being members of the Dhaka Boat Club.
They were drunk and also tried to snatch some bottles of liquor," Nasir told journalists while being taken by police to the Detective Branch office.
Asked why the actress had made him the prime accused, he did not give any answer.
Our Savar Correspondent adds: Savar model police station confirmed that they received popular Bangladeshi film actress Pori Moni’s written complaint by Rupnagar police station of capital, regarding attempt to rape and kill her, on Monday morning. “Processing to take legal action is continuing”, Maruf Hossein Sarder, SP, Dhaka zila police told Bangladesh Post around 2:00 pm on Monday. However, he refused to make any further comment in this regard.
Kazi Mainul Islam, OC, Savar model police station said, “We got the written complaint this morning, and recording the case is now underway”.
Police sources said, Pori Moni lodged a written complaint with Rupnagar police station of capital, mentioning the name of Nasir Uddin Mahmud, Executive committee Member of Dhaka Boat Club and housing traders, and Omi, and 4 others anonymous accused in her written complaint. Later, Rupnagar police station handed the complaint to Savar model police station as the area Birulia, where the incident allegedly took place, is under Savar model police station.
However, Bangladesh Post could not verify the names of the acused, as none of police officers disclosed anything regarding the case, until writing this report.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Post found a written complaint signed by Pori Moni, where the statement said, Pori Moni went to the Dhaka Boat Club along with the accused Omi, and two other men namely Jimmy, and Bonny, around 11:30pm on June 09, but they found the club closed when they reached there. Later, Omi talked with an unknown man over the phone and later the club security guard opened the gate and they entered. Afterward, Nasir Uddin Mahmud, former president of Uttara Club, brought her to the club Bar and offered her wine. Later, Nasir Uddin Ahmed started forcing her to drink wine, while she refused, and Nasir abused and tried to rape her in cooperation with Omi and four other men. Even the accused snatched her mobile phone when she tried to make a call to police through 999. Later, she was able to return home around 3:00 am early Thursday in cooperation with her two associates. Adding that, the accused were threatening her constantly to hide the incident.
Earlier, the popular Bangladeshi film actress made a post on her verified Facebook page, bringing the allegation of attempting to rape and kill her, drawing the attention of the country's Prime Minister. Afterward, she met the press and alleged that she went to Dhaka Boat Club with a businessman namely Omi around 12:00 am on Wednesday, and later Nasir Uddin Mahmud, a housing businessman, attempted to rape and kill her after feeding her food mixed with drugs, in cooperation with Omi. She even expresses helplessness and insecurity for her life. She further made the allegation against police that police did not record or receive her complaint despite making multiple requests.
On the other hand, Saidur Rahman Shujon, Chairman of Birulia Union Parishad in Savar told Bangladesh Post, “Dhaka Boat Club is situated in my area and therefore it took Trade License from my Union Parishad, and as far as I know, all kinds of facilities are available there for relaxation.
He added that Benazir Ahmed, the Inspector General of Bangladesh Police, is President of the Dhaka Boat Club Committee. Bangladesh Post also found the verity of this statement on its website namely ‘Dhaka Boat Club Limited’. Moreover, he alleged that the club authority grabbed his 77 decimals of government land adjacent to the club recently, which is leased in his name.
In a latest development, arrested Nasir was expelled from the executive committee of Dhaka Boat Club.
The club authorities made the decision on Monday, according to a press release from the club in the evening.
A committee was also formed to investigate the whole incident.
Eight other executive members were present at the meeting.
The meeting also suspended the membership of Tuhin Siddique Ami and Shah S Alam.
