Extortion is reportedly on the rise in Narsingdi—both openly and in secret. In response, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Anwar Hossain (Shamim) has issued a stern warning, stating that Narsingdi will be free from extortion, without exception.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, he urged the public to report incidents of extortion, ideally with photos, videos, or audio clips. “No matter how influential the extortionist is, they will not be spared, insha’Allah,” he wrote. He also invited reports of police involvement in extortion, promising firm action. Hossain emphasised that, under the direct instructions of the Inspector General and the Superintendent of Police, all extortionists will be treated according to their actions—not their identity or influence.
His message has received strong support on social media, with many praising the transparency and calling for united efforts between police and citizens to eliminate extortion from the district.
