The Narsingdi BRTC Bus Depot and Training Centre is placing special emphasis on improving the quality of its services, while the new administration has taken a firm stance on reducing government expenditure, increasing revenue and preventing corruption and wastage.
Noor E Alam, who recently joined as the depot’s 27th Manager (Operations), outlined his plans for improving the depot’s overall operations and passenger services in an interview with journalists.
He said ensuring uninterrupted and speedy transport services for passengers was their main priority. At present, 27 buses under the depot are operating regularly on several important routes, including Narsingdi-Dhaka, Bhairab-Gulistan, Itakhola-Kuril Bishwa Road, Kadamtali-Mirpur and Gazipur-Motijheel.
The buses are being monitored round the clock, both by the local office and from Dhaka, to address mechanical problems and ensure proper passenger services. Immediate action is taken following investigations if any irregularity or disorder is detected, he said.
Alongside passenger services, Noor E Alam said the depot was also focusing on ensuring the best possible use of government funds. “Reducing government expenditure while increasing revenue is one of the main objectives of the bus depot. We are fully committed to preventing any misuse of public funds,” he said.
To further improve service quality, special motivational classes are being arranged every month for drivers, conductors and mechanics. The sessions cover compliance with traffic signals, accident prevention, avoiding excessive speed, polite behaviour towards passengers and maintaining a satisfactory environment on buses.
BRTC is also playing an important role in reducing unemployment. Through its training centre, unemployed young men and women are being provided with skills to create employment opportunities for themselves. The activities of trainers and officials are being regularly monitored to ensure proper and quality training for trainees.
Noor E Alam said strict action would be taken following investigations if any officer or employee behaved improperly with service seekers or became involved in corruption.
Noor E Alam began his career at BRTC in 2011 as an Accounts Officer in the Dhaka Motijheel International Bus Depot. His village home is in Gilatala village under Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna.
During his long professional career, he successfully served as Manager (Operations) and Accounts Officer at various BRTC bus depots and training centres, including those in Khulna and Pabna. Before joining Narsingdi, he was working in the Accounts Section of the BRTC headquarters in Dhaka.
With his experience and forward-looking leadership, it is hoped that the Narsingdi BRTC Bus Depot and Training Centre will become more dynamic and effective in delivering public services. #EK
