Naripokkho on Monday held an inception meeting for its UN Women-supported project titled “Women Political Empowerment Project”, aimed at enhancing women’s leadership capacity and ensuring their inclusive participation in public life from grassroots to national levels.
The meeting took place at the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, bringing together around 40 participants, including representatives from civil society organisations, journalists, UN Women officials, Naripokkho members and project staff.
The project, which has been under implementation since November 2025, seeks to strengthen women’s leadership skills and promote their effective engagement in decision-making processes across different spheres of public life.
The session was moderated by Naripokkho member Kamrun Nahar, while Naripokkho President Gita Das highlighted the organisation’s vision, philosophy and long-standing work for women’s rights.
Project Director Nasima Akter presented the background, objectives and planned activities of the initiative, emphasising its focus on inclusive leadership development.
Sadap Say Siddiqui, a member of Naripokkho, elaborated on the expected roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in ensuring effective project implementation.
UN Women Programme Manager Tapati Saha also spoke at the meeting, reaffirming UN Women’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance women’s leadership and gender equality.
Participants discussed the importance of coordination and collaboration among stakeholders at various stages of implementation. The orientation meeting helped create a shared understanding of the project framework and strengthened cooperation among those involved.
Naripokkho expressed optimism that the project, through collective effort and active engagement, will play a significant role in fostering women’s leadership and contributing to more inclusive public life in Bangladesh.
