It seems like that we are getting increasingly habituated to the news of death caused by some mishap where the accident is credited to a lack of proper management and maintenance. Last year we witnessed the Chawkbazar fire incident that claimed a number of lives because of a road accident between a pickup van and a private car that triggered
the explosion of a gas cylinder. This year we have seen another tragic incident in Narayanganj just three days back claiming 22 lives so far.
A report published in this daily showed
This tragedy is one that should never repeat
itself let alone near any place of worship
where people gather around in large numbers
that at least 22 people have passed away so far including a minor sustaining severe burn injuries in air conditioner blasts during prayers at a mosque in Narayanganj. Prior to this there was another similar incident resulting from AC explosion that resulted in the death of a journalist’s son earlier in January this year. These are truly tragic since both of these incidents have been triggered by some kind of negligence.
According to media reports, gas accumulated inside the mosque from a leak in the pipeline maintained by a gas distribution company as the windows of the mosque were closed which might have caused the blast. This is indeed a serious issue that needs to be investigated as it is important to find out if there was any kind of negligence from anyone’s side.
Without a doubt, this tragedy is one that should never repeat itself let alone near any place of worship where people gather around in large numbers.
Such tragedy owing to lack of proper maintenance is not at all expected as this kind of services are now available everywhere and anyone can avail of the facilities with the flick of a fingertip. Calling over a technician to maintain utility services should be done regularly at regular intervals of 4 to 6 months to avoid such mishaps from recurring.
