Rupganj Correspondent: Construction has officially begun on a new eco park along the Meghna River in Araihazar, Narayanganj, on 23.52 acres of government land that had been under illegal occupation for nearly 70 years.
The project was formally inaugurated on Thursday afternoon by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah.
The park is situated adjacent to the Bishnandi ferry terminal and spans approximately 70 bighas, with an estimated market value exceeding Tk 60 crore. The land, originally owned by Hindu families who migrated to India during the 1947 Partition, was listed under 'Kha' schedule as government khas land. Over the decades, it had been occupied by influential individuals and used for unauthorised businesses, including sand trading.
The district administration reclaimed the land and officially incorporated it as government khas land on 16 September. Plans were immediately set in motion to develop it into an eco park, aimed at preserving natural beauty and providing public recreational space.
Present at the event were UNO Sheikh Md Mamunur Rashid, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Noim Uddin, Engineer Saiful Islam, and other officials.
The Deputy Commissioner said the park would significantly contribute to eco-friendly tourism and become a key attraction for both locals and visitors from across Narayanganj.
