We strongly condemn and protest the attack and vandalism on houses and shops of the Hindu community at Digholia Bazar in Lohagara upazila of Narail district. According to media sources, agitated people went on a rampage on Friday night, damaging at least two houses of the Hindu community and several shops in Digholia Bazar on Friday night.

A college student belonging to the Hindu community made a Facebook post “hurting religious sentiments” on Friday. As the news spread like wildfire, a group of local people thronged Digholia Bazar and vandalised two houses and six shops that night. They also set fire to one of these houses over the issue.

On information, police rushed to the spot and fired in the air to bring the situation under control. Additional police force has been deployed in the area to avert further trouble. However, police arrested the Hindu youth named Akash Saha. Such barbaric attack is a blow to the spirit of the great liberation war and the thousand-year-old tradition, culture and communal harmony of the Bangali nation.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is running the country with the spirit of non-communalism.

The government should find out

the main culprits involved in the attack

and vandalism on houses

and shops in Narail and reveal

their identity

Her government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against any form of religious violence. Therefore, lawmakers and other public representatives, civil society members and people from all walks of life along with local administration have to remain cautious and work to maintain communal harmony. Those who are responsible for the attacks on the minority community must face stern punishment. Earlier, we witnessed unidentified miscreants set fire to houses, shops and even temples of Hindus in different districts of the country. Idols of several temples were also damaged during the mayhem in different parts of the country.

The attacks, according to different quarters, were intended to destabilise communal harmony. The leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat might have been involved in the incident as they trying to create unrest and destroy the existing communal harmony in the country. As they (BNP-Jamaat) are worried and terrified about their political future, they have now chosen the path of conspiracy. They always instigate such incidents by influencing some innocent people and using their religious sentiment in order to put the government in awkward position.

They wanted to blame the government after staging those incidents. The conspirators conducted the attacks to destroy our relations with the Hindu community and the neighbouring country to kill two birds with one stone. The government should find out the main culprits involved in the attack and vandalism on houses and shops in Narail and reveal their identity before the people. Therefore, it must bring the culprits to book as such wrongdoers are always trying to create unrest and destroy communal harmony in the country.
